Painting time: ~30 hours

This was a commission work for an Italian collector. To our shared horror, it disappeared in the mail somewhere between Australia and Italy :( Gone gone gone I'm afraid! That;s the first time it has ever happened to me - I've never lost a mini before. But that's life I suppose. I wonder where it is right now! update: although it was missing at the time I originally posted this, it actually appeared a couple of months later, safe and sound. ya-HEY! :)

Anyway, for the painting, I wanted to do something pretty traditional for a GW orc, so I went with quite a classic colour scheme. The flesh was painted with a mix of VMC yellow green and a little P3 necrotite green as a base coat, shading by adding some blue to the base colour, then shading with darker blue-green tones, going to dark purple in the deepest shadows. Highlights by adding more yellow-bone type colours to the base colour, with a creamy bone colour for final highlights.

Some extra tones and nuances were added to the flesh later, using mauve and purple colours round the elbows and face, and even some turqoise glazes in certain areas for a colder feel.

The red areas were painted using a base colour of VMC carmine red + a little VMC cadmium maroon and P3 khador red highlight. Then shading with cadmium maroon, adding very dark blue and black for the darkest parts. Shading by adding more P3 khador red highlight to the base colour, then VMC beige red.
