Heartbreaker Necromancer

This is a Heartbreaker miniatures' necromancer. Chosen because I wanted to further practice my metallics staining technique.

This is the first mini for which I have based on a larger display base. It was very satisfying not to be restricted to building interesting terrain on a confined 25mm base. The base is a lid from a spray can. I filled the lid with clay and water putty to add weight. I should have used large pebbles instead of the clay, which now won't dry as its sealed in by the water putty. The combination of large pebbles and water putty is much better, as I done so in a subsequent base (and much heavier).

With the metallics, I basecoated with boltgun metal. First few controlled glazes of thinned down scorched brown + black were followed by reanimation of thinned down glazes of boltgun metal (See Sebastian's Kelian tutorial for examples of watered down paint). I then continued with this colour plus reanimation, which included, dark red, red gore, orange etc. What I found was, the large spike and armour parts on the ground warranted the dark brown stages, but with the sword and armour bits the necromancer was wearing, I could have just jumped to nauseating blue, then red, orange, camo green, and saved myself a lot of time - because of how dark boltgun metal is to start off with. Thinned glazes of chainmail were then applied is some areas, along with just straight chainmail at some brighter points.

I thought, no point working the metal too bright since he is a crusty old necromancer.
